Option Piping is a dynamic feature that allows you to take the answers/options selected/not selected by a respondent in a previous question and automatically use them as the answer options for a subsequent question.
How it works (conceptual example):
- Question 1 (Source Question): “Which of the following fruits do you like?”
- Apples
- Bananas
- Oranges
- Grapes
- Pears
- Respondent’s Selection: Let’s say the respondent selects “Apples” and “Grapes.”
- Question 2 (Target Question) with Option Piping: The survey platform is configured to pipe the selected options from Question 1 into Question 2.

- Apples (Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Rarely)
- Grapes (Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Rarely)

In this example, “Apples” and “Grapes” (the respondent’s selections from Q1) are automatically populated as the answer options or column/row labels in a matrix question for Q2.
Option piping allows you to use previous answers (answers from multiple questions) as options in later questions.
